Tomorrow my youngest child, Mindi, will be forty years old. Like all parents of forty year olds I wonder how that could be possible. I was the sole support (with help from my parents and family) for my three children (42, 41 and now 40) when they grew up. I feel deep sadness because I never had enough money to buy them what they needed and deserved. We really struggled. I look back and see so many mistakes that I made, too.
To see them now you wouldn’t know it. Because they were so ashamed of the tattered clothing they had to wear day after day they are now all three fashionable, attractive people who are very good with finances. All three are college graduates. My son David, works for the Oregon Health Department at the management level and he and his wife Bonnie are devoted parents of Paige, a national class softball player, and Kyle a laid-back kid who has a heart of gold and a magicians nimble-fingered bag of tricks. Anne, a business management software specialist for corporations, works from home, and is a busy single mom of two teenage footballers, Max and Mason. Mindi Sue, my birthday girl, works for EPIC Imaging, the most comprehensive outpatient diagnostic imaging facility in Oregon. I think she does mammograms now but she seems to have done everything there that they do. She and her boyfriend Jeff are the proud new parents of Riley, photo attached. All three of them are hopeless Oregon Duck football fans going to as many games as they can.
I’m proud of all of them. They are each lively, articulate, funny people! Happy birthday Mindi!!! My baaaaaby!
